Marita has taken to the stage in numerous productions, including the national tour of John Doyle’s Sweeney Todd, where she was a swing for Johanna, the Beggar Woman, and Pirelli (playing cello and flute). Favorite regional productions include Chess (Florence), Crazy for You (Polly), Evita (Peron’s Mistress), Charlie Brown (Lucy), Oklahoma (Laurey), Oliver (playing Bet to Stephanie J. Block’s Nancy). She spent many years traveling the world as a Lead Singer on Celebrity and Holland America Cruise Lines.
Originally from Austin, Texas, Marita was surrounded by music and the arts from the start. The wonderfully supportive theatre community in Austin has welcomed her home many times to appear in shows and teach voice and movement, yearly, at the Texas Arts Project. She has earned an Austin Critics Table Award for Best Supporting Actress and nomination for Best Actress, as well as a B. Iden Payne Nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.
Marita holds both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music from Oklahoma City University, and continues to explore vocal pedagogy and performance techniques through her teachers in New York, Tom Burke, Jen Waldman, and Robert Sussuma. She is a certified Yoga Instructor and Movement Educator, and has focused her teaching practice on work with emerging families.
